【動物保護無國界】 【寫信給藝人行動】
| 敬致韓國藝人們：
當舉世注目韓、日兩國舉辦世界盃足球賽的同時，近年來，韓國人「吃狗肉」的行為，亦引起全球動物保護人士或團體的抗議。貴國許多動物保護團體也努力訴求立法以禁吃狗肉。 人類飼養狗和貓作為夥伴，已至少有一萬兩千年以上的歷史，在過去20年中，科學界並逐漸集結出共識：同伴動物對人類在心理和生理健康上具有貢獻，牠們可以給人類親密性和支持性，緩和人們慢性生活壓力對健康的負面影響，進而達到保護和對抗一些疾病。 在人類社會文明的進程裡，人們不斷反省其在自然、萬物中的許多殘酷行為，為了打造一個更為人道的社會，身為地球公民的一份子，我們竭誠希望身為公眾人物的你們，能率先做好「尊重生命的示範教育」，公開呼籲貴國民眾改變「吃狗肉」的慣習，並進而要求貴國政府儘速立法禁吃狗肉，提升韓國的動物福利。 |

An Invitation to Korean Celebrities |

While the FIFA World Cup in Korea and Japan attracts worldwide attention during this period, the Korean dog and cat meat trade gives rise to concerned appeals for help by animal welfare advocates globally, throughout the year. Some people in Korea are also working hard for legislation to ban dog and cat eating. Dogs and cats were domesticated as human companions more than 12, 000 years ago. Over the last 20 years, scientific evidence has gradually accumulated, suggesting that companion animals contribute to people's mental and physical well-being. It is now known that close and supportive human relationships can exert a protective influence against many common life-threatening diseases, probably by buffering people from the negative health effects of chronic life stress. Companion animals serve a similar function. But dogs and cats are treated worse than livestock in Korea. Dogs may be electrocuted or hanged and beaten. Cats may be boiled alive or hammered. Their suffering is extreme. Some people say this is "culture" and must continue. But people change their behaviors and attitudes all the time. They make culture. So they can change culture. When people evolve, they take better care of the Earth. As a popular celebrity in Korea and Taiwan, you can help shape compassionate attitudes among your many fans. We thus appeal for you to join us in an educational campaign by saying "No" to dog and cat meat publicly. To appeal for the South Korean Government to legislate a ban on all slaughter and trade in dogs and cat；and to raise animal welfare standards by means of legislation and policy . |
