EAST launches survey to track corporate cage-free progress in Taiwan
The Environment & Animal Society of Taiwan (EAST) is pleased to launch the first ever Taiwan Cage-Free Implementation Survey.
Globally, more than 2,000 food companies have pledged to end their use of eggs from cruelly caged hens. And according to the Open Wing Alliance’s most recent industry reporting initiative, so far 88% of companies have followed through on their commitments to consumers.[1] Despite this, most companies are yet to publish their progress towards fulfilling their commitments in Taiwan.
As of this year Taiwanese consumers have the highest per capita GDP in East Asia[2] and care deeply about how animals are treated. A recent survey shows eight in ten Taiwanese believe animals suffer in battery cages, while the vast majority expect companies to be accountable for animal welfare.[3]
Consumers in Taiwan have a right to know if the companies they patronize are adhering to their commitments. As deadlines fast approach, EAST will be asking companies with operations in Taiwan about their progress. The results of the survey will be made public.
The deadline for companies to respond to the survey is March 10, 2023.
